The first wave of Immigrant to the New World mostly came from England and Western Europe.

These were mostly people with some money who were looking to buy cheap land in the West and build estates.

However, the second wave of immigrants came from Eastern Europe. These were mostly very poor and did not have any funds once they reached the new world.

Their arrival gave rise to city ghettos and the immigrants were willing to do any job they can get at less wages than the Americans.

Eventually, they became easy targets for racism and discrimination as poor city planning, poor healthcare, joblessness, etc were all blamed on these people.

The manta of the 'immigrant' coming to the US and stealing jobs came from this time.
