Berlin blockade was an international crisis that arose when soviet Union blocked road, railway and canal access to Berlin to halt western Allies access to the sectors of Berlin that was under their control.

The crisis was tackled by Britain and US, they launched massive airlift of water, medicine and water to Berlin. They kept supplying it for more than one year and sustained over 2 million people. The blockade lasted from June 24, 1948 and lasted till May 12, 1949.
