He was the figurehead of consultations that gave birth to the nation of Pakistan from India.

Muhammad Ali Jinnah ensured that Pakistan got her independence from India by proposing the partition of India as well as the creation of the nation of Pakistan in the part of India overwhelmingly populated by Muslims.

Jinnah's proposal was adopted in 1942. Four years later, India was partitioned into three territories according to majorities. The first was Hindu majority (present-day India), the second was Pakistan (Muslim majority) and the third was Bengal and Assam which had a narrow Muslim majority.
