Discuss the international attempts that were made to prevent another world war, and consider why they were unsuccessful

When World War I ended, the Allied Powers were very harsh on Germany when the Treaty of Versailles was signed. The blame for the entire war was tossed on Germany, and they ultimately paid the price.

After the treaty was signed, Germany was stripped of 25,000 square miles of land, containing seven million citizens, lost a massive part of its military, and they lost all their colonies. Also, they had to pay large reparations to the Allies and other costs.

In the years to come, Germany suffered as a country, and was still surrendering large sums of their money to the Allies. Citizens were living in a third-world state with little food, inflated prices and a nearly collapsing government. These very "safegaurds" that were put in place to prevent another World War, ultimately led to the rise of Hitler, the Nazis, and World War II.
