What Western nation gained control of the Philippines in the late nineteenth century?

    Spain gained control of the Philippines in the late nineteenth century, they converted the Filipinos and Austronesian peoples to become Christian and also assimilated them into the West even though they're in East Asia. This is also an example of Western Imperialism.
