Texans, just like other human populations, have modified their environment in order to better suit their needs.

Logging has played a big part on the modification of the environment. Timber has been used for energy and construction, and cleared areas have been used for farming or housing. Water bodies have been modified by the use of dams. Water is also channeled in order to prevent flooding and use it for electricity. Cattle and agricultural production have changed the land and the fauna found in the state. The drilling of oil has greatly modified the natural landscape of the region.
