According to lincoln, for what cause or idea was the battle of gettysburg fought?

    It fought for democracy, freedom and a government that was for "Of the people, By the people, and For the People". That all men are created equal and should view every men equal in the eyes of the law and government and become the central idea of American government and it become one of the foundation of democracy.
