The Sepoy Mutiny was a rebellion of the Indian population (specifically Indian soldiers: Sepoy means a soldier), and this rebellion was lost by the Indian population and Great Britain suppress it.
In order to prevent new rebellions Great Britain reorganized their rule over India and created the British Raj - direct rule.
