The Embargo Act is about making any and all kinds of exports from United States of America illegal. This Act was passed in the year 1807 by president Thomas Jefferson and it was duly passed by the Congress. The main aim of the Embargo Act was to make the British and the French respect the rights of the Americans during the time of Napoleonic wars. The Americans wanted to show themselves to be neutral to both the French and the British. This act was not only very unpopular among the people in United States, but it was considered a complete failure in regards to the target it set.
