Lord Castlereagh's focused on ensuring the prevention of France from gaining military power and ambition while von Metternich's ambition was to restore the European balance of power and system of absolute monarchy that existed in 1792 in order to create peace by balancing power and protecting the monarchies. During the congress in Vienna, they both agreed to redraw the map of Europe in a way that would surround France by strong military powers while also recognizing the legitimacy of hereditary monarchies.

Goals of Prince Klemens Von Metternich of Austria:

Stop French aggression by surrounding with strong countries Restore a balance of power, and bring back the royal families that Napoleon had taken down back to power

    Goals of Britain Lord Castlereagh:

They wanted a new European order that was sympathetic to their own interests, which were mostly about sea trade. If that could be obtained by parley, rather than by military competition, so much the better and within those limits, Britain would be willing to maintain frequent diplomatic relations with the other European powers.
