    C) The government has made many false promises to the American Indians.

    Explanation:

Born in Wallowa Valley, Oregon Territory, Chief Joseph was the chief of Nez Perces (nose-pierced Indians). A treaty was forged between the father of Chief Joseph and white settlers to create a reservation. But when Gold was discovered there conflict became unavoidable. In 1877 to avoid war, he agreed for a resettlement plan but before that happened, his band members killed some white settlers and there began the most memorable retreat in the history of America. His surrender in October 1877 was followed by two famous speeches one 1877 and one 1879, in which he addressed the issues with the U. S government.
