They had to get more salves and had to work harder which was horrible only because people wanted more cotton

The cotton gin was patented in 1794 by Eli Whitney. It allowed debris to be separated from cotton much faster, while that was good for business, it was bad for slavery. It meant that more slaves (and land) were needed to get more work done.
