The advance of military technology revolutionized combat in the twentieth century.

War served as a "field of technology experimentation". World War I was an absolutely new conflict because of the use of modern technologies, especially at the end of the clash.
Nineteenth-century war experiences marked the early years of the war. Cavalry, which would later be replaced by tanks, and poor transportation evidenced early development.
