"There were multiple periods of conflict between the settlers at Jamestown and the Powhatan confederacy. Conflict began to arise based upon where the settlers chose to place their settlement. Then at later periods when harvests were low and food shortages developed both the Powhatans and the settlers at Jamestown stole or attempted to strong arm the other to gain food. These small conflicts escalated into much larger conflicts between the Native Americans and the settlers at Jamestown. "
