How did the church respond to galileo's views about the solar system

    They thought that it was ludicris. The belief the earth was the center of the solar system (Or the "Earth at the Center" theory) had gone unchallenged for thousands of years. The Egytians, The Greeks and many other ancient civilizations had solidified the idea that the sun revolved around the earth. In response to his "blasphamy" they persecuted and imprisoned him.

    They beleieved that everything in the universe revolved around the earth, and when Galileo challenged these beliefs he was deemed a "Heretic" and was subjected to imprisonment. When he suggested the sun was at the center of the solar system, he was shunned from the religion as a result.
