    The non-native way to describe a shogun, that is the leader in the shogunate is a "military dictator" - so we can see already that dictatorship, or military dictatorship is a good answer. Shogunate was the system in Japan between 12th and 18th centuries, and shoguns ruled the country together with the emperor.
