My name is Smith. I live in Alabama in the year of 1955. I can read, but I live in poverty. Can I vote? Why or why not?

    Yes you can vote. Being poor has nothing to do with it

    Yes, Smith can vote. The Fifteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution outlaws the federal and state governments from denying a citizen the right to vote based on that citizen's race, color, or previous condition of servitude. It was ratified on February 3, 1870. However, people in poverty are less likely to vote.
