During the Cold War the major 2 parties involved were the United States and the Soviet Union, The United States had signed a containment policy meaning they wanted to contain the amount of communism the Soviet Union was spreading through out the United States. If that policy was broken and ANY country tried to spread communism forcefully then the United States would step in and try to restrict the spread of communism

In the Korean War north and South Korea are separated by I believe the 38th parallel. North Korea was communism, and South Korea was democratic, well North Korea tried to go across the 38th parallel and tried to force South Korea to become communist. This is an example of breaking the containment policy, the us stepped in and forced North Korea back across the line so that the spread of communism wouldn't influence South Korea
