Why did Buddhism become such a dominant force in the political and sociocultural life of china in the early tang period and who led the capaigns to rein in the wealth and influence of the Buddhist monastic orders?

    Buddhism became very popular because of the aspect of salvation that it offered to everyone in China where they didn't have it before.
