What could be said about Montesquieus ideas on separation of powers?

They were definitily noble ideas that have gone a long way to improve governance, accountability and integrity of individuals who hold authority.

The main advantage of separation of powers is checks and balances. the executive arm of the government, is checked by the judiciary as well as legco houses and vice versa.
