What killed more than one-third of the slaves before they even reached the coast?

    The answer to your question would be Thirst, Disease or exhaustion because the slaves were not properly taken cared of during the voyages. They suffered tight spaces which led to sickness, death, and ultimately diseases. They were also not well fed therefore starvation occurred.
