General Cornwallis rebukes Tavington for his ruthless tactics during the war, arguing that's not the way a gentleman conducts himself.

    Explanation:

The Patriot is a 2000 movie set during the American Revolutionary War. Benjamin Martin (played by Mel Gibson) is the commander of the militia fighting the British in South Carolina. He is opposed mainly by Colonel William Tavington (Jason Isaacs) commander of the Green Dragoons. Tavington becomes infamous for his ruthless tactics when dealing with the rebels, such as executing prisoners of war and terrorizing civilians who offer any kind of assistance to the colonial troops.

British General Cornwallis (Tom Wilkinson) commander of the British forces, summons Tavington and rebukes him for his behaviour during the war, arguing that's not the way a gentleman conducts himself. As Tavington's superior, he's ultimately responsible for his actions and doesn't want his terror tactics to reflect on himself. However, after Martin's militiamen outsmart and ridicule Cornwallis later on the movie, he changes his mind and asks Tavington to get rid of Martin at any cost. This led to a massacre where a town full of colonial loyalists is murdered by burning them alive inside the town's church, with many family members of the militiamen among the dead.
