    The war happened between the U. S and Mexico concluded with a treaty called the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. It was not until this treaty began into force in 1848, California, Texas, and New Mexico remained in the possession of Mexico.

    Mexico declared that the area extending up to River Nueces was Mexican land, whereas the United States pressed on River Grande being the boundary. After Mexico lost the Mexican American War, it had to sign the said treaty and leave the possession of California, Texas, and New Mexico for a price of $15 million.
