    Jamestown became the first permanent English settlement in America. Settlers and Indians tried to maintain a friendly relationship by conducting trade of food, fur and other goods. Ultimately, the greed for the land by the colonists led to anxiety among both sides.

    During the 16th century, Spanish conquest the early civilization and establish colonies to gain wealth. Interactions among Spanish and Native Americans depended on economic and social factors. Intermarriage was common between Spanish immigrants and Native Indian women, which led to cultural interaction and a new ethnic group called 'Mestizo'.
