Therefore, Madison and Hamilton (and many others, but Mads and Ham wrote the Federalist Papers) believed that a stronger document was needed in order for America to function as a nation. The Federalist Papers were a series of essays arguing for the implementation of the Constitution and showing how each facet of it was important for a functioning democracy.
