Criminal justice is a system in law enforcement that includes different stages of criminal proceedings (courts, police, lawyers, etc.).

Penalties in criminal law are government measures applied to a person found guilty of a crime. Punishment, therefore, is a kind of social consequence of the crime. In legal terms, punishment acts as the main form of implementation of criminal liability. The right of the state to apply punishment arises from the task of ensuring the safety of people's life together in society, preserving untouched the legal structure of public life. Currently, punishment is usually applied only by the court and only in the legally established procedural order.
