August Vollmer is known as the father of modern day law enforcement and a significant figure in the creation of the modern day criminal justice system.

He was born in Louisiana in the year 1876 and started his career as police chief in the city of Berkeley in California in the year 1905. He has modernised the police department by introducing new technologies, training for policemen and formal orientation about the laws.
