Solve the system using elimination. x - 4y = 4 3x - 4y = - 12

    Subtract the second from the first.

    x-4y=4

    3x-4y=-12

    -2x=16

    x=-8

    Substitute in to find y.

    -8-4y=4

    -4y=12

    y=-3
