Given the following quadratic find the discriminant. 2x^2 5x 9=0

    2x^2 + 5x + 9 = 0

    a = 2, b = 5, c = 9

    discriminant = b^2 - 4ac = 5^2 - (4 x 2 x 9) = 25 - 72 = - 47
