How many minutes does it take an athlete to run a 10.0 kilometer race? assume the athlete's pace is 6.50 minutes per mile. (1 mi = 1.609 km) ?

    1.609 kilometers are 1 miles

    so 1 kilometer is (1 km) (1 mi) / (1.609 km) = 0.6215 km

    it takes the athlete: 6.5 minutes to complete 1 mile

    so in: 1 minute he completes 1/6.5 = 0.1538 mile

    thus, the speed of the athlete is 0.1538 miles / minute

    = (0.1538*0.6215) km / min

    = 0.0959 km/min

    Time = Distance / Speed

    the time to run 10 km is (10 km) / (0.0959 km/min) = (10/0.0959) min = 10.43 minutes

    Answer: 10.43
