    First, you must convert 1 1/2 into fourths.

    To do this, first make it an improper fraction.

    1 = 2/2

    1/2 + 2/2 = 3/2

    Now multiply both the numerator and denominator by 2 to get an equivalent fraction in the form of fourths.

    3 • 2 = 6

    2 • 2 = 4

    3/2 = 6/4

    So Sam's dog eats 6/4 cups of dog food each day.

    If 1 scoop is 1/4 of a cup, divide how much the dog eats by how much is in each scoop to get the answer.

    6/4 : 1/4 = 6

    Sam's dog eats 6 scoops of dog food per day.
