A senior class is selling lanyards as a fundraiser. The profit for each lanyard is $0.75. Write and solve an inequality to determine the number of lanyards the class must sell to make a profit of at least $250.

    0.75x > = 250

    x > = 250/0.75

    x > = 333.33 ... so they would have to sell at least 334 of them

    Ok so lets say that the number of lanyards is equal to b. We have to write an equation that solves for b. That would be:

    0.75b ≥ 250

    Now you solve the equation

    0.75b ≥ 250

    - - - - - (divide both sides by 0.75)

    0.75 0.75

    b ≥ 333.3

    You have to round that up because you can’t sell part of a lanyard. So the answer is:

    The seniors have to sell at least 334 lanyards.
