The teacher separated her class of twenty-eight students into two groups. One group has 4 more than twice as many students as the other group. How many students are in each group?

    4+2x = x (x = student in smaller group)

    4 + 2x + x = 28 (total # of students)

    4 + 3x = 28

    3x = 24

    x = 8

    8 students in the smaller group

    4 + 2 (8) = 20 students in the larger group
