Since 5p 5p does not contain the variable to solve for, move it to the right side of the equation by subtracting 5p 5p from both sides. 9c = - 5 p + p 9c = - 5 p + p Add - 5 p - 5 p and pp to get - 4 p - 4 p. 9c = - 4 p 9c = - 4 p Divide each term by 99 and simplify.
