    3 (5/8) x=16 < - - edgewise

    to make it easier, turn the mixed number into an improper fraction

    (29/8) x=16

    divide by (29/8) on both sides

    x=128/29

    x ≈ 4.4 bricks

    7 (5/8) x=16 < - - lengthwise

    (61/8) x=16

    x=128/61

    x ≈ 2 Bricks
