In general the air temperature decreases 12 degrees f for every 4000 feet increase in altitude. If a hiker climbs 3000 feet by how much can she expect the temperature to decrease?

    4000 ft higher = 12 F * lower > divide both by 4 > 1000 ft higher = 3 F*

    > multiply both by 3 > 3000 ft higher = 9 F * > ur ansr is 9 degrees
