Suppose the mean weight (in pounds) of a newborn elephant is 200 pounds with a standard deviation of 23 pounds. If you take a sampling of 15 elephants, what is the probability that your sample has a mean weight of 198?

    The Z score is:

    Z = (198 - 200) / 23 = - 0.087

    Assuming normal distribution and from the z table, the probability based on the Z score is

    p = 0.47 or 47%

    Therefore, there is a probability of 47% that the 15 elephants will have a mean weight of 198 lbs.
