The lateral area of a cube is 36 square inches. How long is each edge?

    Cubes have three square sides. The area of one side is the edge length squared:

    36 = L^2

    L = sqrt (36) = 6

    The volume of a cube is edge length cubed:

    V = L^3 = 216 cubic inches
