Two planes leave an airport at the same time. Their speeds are 90 miles per hour and 180 miles per hour, and the angle between their courses is 48°. How far apart are they after 1.5 hours? (Round your answer to the nearest whole number.)

    The distances they've flown are 2 sides of a triangle.

    a = 90*1.5 = 135 miles

    b = 180*1.5 = 270 miles

    The angle between the sides is 48º

    Use the Cosine Law to find the 3rd side:

    c^2 = a^2 + b^2 - 2*a*b*cos (48) to get your answer
