The first group was assigned to create a replica of a pink granite dome that rises into the air out of a relatively flat region of landscape. Since the students know the rock formation is shaped like a dome, they decide to create (using clay) a replica model that has a circular base. The students learned that the dome-shaped rock formation covers a region of about 630 acres. Assuming that this rock formation is circular in shape, what is the approximate diameter, in yards, of its base? Use pi ≈ 22/7. Note 1 acre = 4,840 yd2. (Hint A = π r2.)
