    Garden :48 square feet

    Peas : 3/8

    Herbs : 1/4

You can do it in 2 ways.

    1st way:

    3/8 of 48 = 18

    1/4 of 48 = 12

    48 - 18 - 12 = 18

    2nd way:

    1 - 3/8 - 1/4 = 1 - 3/8 - 2/8 = 3/8

    3/8 of 48 = 18.

Nonetheless, the answer would be 18.

18 square feet of the garden are planted with peppers.
