Lets write an equation for this. A number multiplied by twice that number is equal to 66. so lets write this equation:

    x + 2x = 66, or 3x = 66

solve for x, and you get x = 22. The longer piece of rope is expressed by 2x, so substitute:

    2 (22) = 44
