Alice and Dave left school at the same time walking in opposite directions. Alice walked at an average speed of 280 ft/min and Dave walked at an average speed of 320 ft/min. How far apart were they in 1 minute?

    so

    resultant speed is object 1 + object 2

    and we know Distance = time * speed

    distance = 183/60 * 60 (183/60 is the speed and 60 is the time in sec as 1 min. = 60sec)

    so the distance comes out as 183 m

    convert it into ft

    1m = 3.2 ft

    so 600 ft in one minute
