Margie and four friends are eating lunch at a restaurant. The total bill is $52.50 before tax and tip. Margie has a coupon good for $10off their total purchase. If sales tax of 6 percent is collected on the discount amount, what is the total cost after tax?

    52.50 ... before tax and discount (don't see anything about a tip)

    has a $ 10 off coupon ...

    52.50 - 10 = 42.50 ... this is the discount amount

    has a 6% sales tax

    0.06 (42.50) = 2.55 ... this is the sales tax

    for a total of : 42.50 + 2.55 = 45.05 <==
