Ricky and Patrick are scuba diving. Ricky started out 12 feet below the surface. He descended 8 feet, rose 7 feet, and descended 13 more feet. Then he rested. Patrick started out at the surface.     Rose 7 ft : + 7

    descended 13 ft : -13

    total = - 12 - 8+7-13 = -26 ft

    rose 8 ft : + 8

    descended 6ft : -6

    total = 0-25+8-6 = -23 ft

    Ricky has a lower number so he is at a greater depth (lower down)
