    In general: (a - b) ^3 = a^3 - 3 a^2b + 3 a b^2 - b ^3

    (4x-2y) ^3 = (4x) ^3 - 3 (4x) ^2 (2y) + 3 (4x) (2y) ^2 - (2y) ^3
