    humans: x

    horses: y

    Heads: 1x + 1y = 74 ⇒ - 2 (1x + 1y = 74) ⇒ - 2x - 2y = - 148

    Legs: 2x + 4y = 196 ⇒ 1 (2x + 4y = 196) ⇒ 2x + 4y = 196

    2y = 48

    y = 24

    Heads: 1x + 1y = 74 ⇒ x + (24) = 74 ⇒ x = 50

    Answer: humans = 50, horses = 24
