    The equation can be compiled as;

    (5.2 + 8.3 + 8.5 + 7.7 + 7.8 + y) / 6 = 7.1

    The mean of 6 numbers is 7.1.

    5.2 + 8.3 + 8.5 + 7.7 + 7.8 + y = 7.1 x 6

    37.5 + y = 42.6

    y = 42.6 - 37.5

    y = 5.1

    So 1st option is correct.
