Adam has 4 1/2 or 4.5 ounces of pumpkin seeds.

To find the answer you need to multiply 12 by 3/8 because the word each means multiplication

So 12*3/8=12/1*3/8 because to multiply whole numbers by fractions you first need to convert 12 into a fraction so 12 as a fraction is 12/1. Next you multiply across so you will end up having 36/8. Then you can reduce 36/8 and you will end up having 9/2. (you simplify by looking at which number could go into 36 and 8 and in this case it would be 4 then you have to divide 36 and 8 by 4).

Finally you convert 9/2 into a mixed number and you will end up with 4 1/2. (you convert an improper fraction into a mixed number by dividing the numerator by your denominator).
