The length of a rectangle is five times its width. if the perimeter of the rectangle is 60 yd, find its area.

    Well if it is 60 yd around the perimeter then you have the expression 2x+2y=60

    The other expression is y=5x because it is 5 times the width. So when you plug that into the first expression you get 2x+10x=60 next is 12x=60 and x=5. so if x=5 plug that in so it is 10+2y=60. Take 10 away from 60 2y=50 and divide it by two so you get y=25. So y=25 and x=5
